Bringing Teeth into Alignment with Orthodontic Treatment

Treatment can correct an irregular or “bad” bite, (also known as a malocclusion) and improves esthetics of the face by correcting teeth and Lip position & guiding proper jaw growth.

Straightening teeth can be an important part of that confidence-boosting makeover process.

Orthodontic care involves the use of appliances.

There are two main types

1) REMOVABLE APPLIANCES : are placed inside mouth and taken out by the patient (Used mainly in kids).

2) FIXED APPLIANCES : Braces are attached to the teeth

TYPES OF ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES

1. TRADITIONAL METAL BRACES

Metal brackets bonded to teeth that offer good force for treatment.

Pros : Good speed of teeth movement.

Cons : Inesthetic in appearance.

3. CLEAR ALIGNERS: Removable Appliance

They are actually a series of clear plastic “trays” that fit over your teeth exactly. Each tray is part of a series of trays that move your teeth a little bit at a time until they are in the proper position.

Your trays are designed with the help of specialized computer software that generates a virtual model of your bite.

4. LINGUAL BRACES

These metal braces are bonded to the back of your teeth (tongue side) so that no one can see them. They are relatively invisible

5. MYOFUNCTIONAL APPLIANCE

These appliances are used in cases where along with bite correction (orthodontic correction) additional forces are required to alter jaw growth (orthopedic correction) to restore facial balance.
